Sec.7-323l-13a. Health and safety officer and incident safety officer

(a) General
(1) No person shall be certified to the level of health and safety officer until all examination requirements of this standard for that level have been fulfilled.
(2) A candidate for incident safety officer certification shall be an active member of a fire department, and
(A) A candidate for incident safety officer – fire suppression certification shall be a certified fire officer I or have been a fire officer on or before July 1, 1986, or
(B) A candidate for incident safety officer – hazardous materials certification shall be a certified fire officer I or have been a fire officer on or before July 1, 1986 and shall be a certified hazardous materials technician.
(3) No person shall be certified to the level of incident safety officer until all examination requirements of this standard for that level have been fulfilled.
(b) Objectives: The candidate for certification to the level of health and safety officer or incident safety officer shall comply with the performance objectives of NFPA 1521, Standard for Fire Department Safety Officer Professional Qualifications.
(c) The commission shall certify as a health and safety officer or incident safety officer any candidate who has satisfactorily demonstrated the ability to meet the requirements as prescribed in this section.
